This may just be the simplest dessert you make with your kids! French Yogurt Cake us a fun, sweet treat inspired by the recipe found in Bringing Up Bebe.
I remember reading this book just after Rhys was born and being enamored by the seemingly glamorous lives of French parents living among the beauty of Paris. I mean, Bringing Up Bebe is really a book about parenting and how French parents differ from their American counterparts. If you are a parent, new or experienced, looking for an interesting perspective on parenting with less stress in this crazy world, I highly recommend the read!
However, what I truly found interesting was the insight into how the French view meals and food in general. Meals are usually made from scratch with fresh ingredients. There are virtually no snacks between meals, even for kids. There is a snack mid-afternoon for kids, but really that is it.
This recipe for cupcakes, or just a cake if you want, is a recipe straight from the book. A classic recipe that French children learn and help with from a young age. The whole premise is that the measurement of ingredients in made from that first container of yogurt. This makes the whole cake easy peasy for little hands who may still have problems understanding all the tiny marks on traditional measuring cups.
Any plain yogurt (not Greek) will do, but we have really been enjoying Oui by Yoplait. The plain Oui by Yoplait is just perfect for this recipe and you can reuse the little glass containers long after these cupcakes are gone!
