NORTH SHORE

With everything going on this year, nothing makes me happier than to see families making time to get together and take family photos. Especially when it’s brothers and sisters who are grown with families of their own carving time out of their busy schedules to come together and get photos of the entire family with […]

Summer Family Portrait Session in Central Illinois

2020. What a year. I’m sure I was not the only one who imagined a beautiful path through the months and had big plans for this year, but the Universe seemed to have other plans for us all. Exciting plans were cancelled, rescheduled, or put on hold, which has been frustrating and heartbreaking. However, looking […]

2020. What a year. I’m sure I was not the only one who imagined a beautiful path through the months and had big plans for this year, but the Universe seemed to have other plans for us all. Exciting plans were cancelled, rescheduled, or put on hold, which has been frustrating and heartbreaking. However, looking back on the last 6 months has also made me realize some things about this unique time we have all experienced. I definitely tend to be a glass half full person, but I can’t lie that there have been many times while reflecting on all the plans and hopes I had for this year that just couldn’t happen anymore I could be one of the biggest pessimists around. After a week of what I can only call wallowing in self-pity(oh, I can wallow with the best of them) I decided something needed to change and I took a hard look at this situation. Yes, it has been trying, exhausting, anxiety filled, sad, and anger inciting, but you know? I realized how much these last four months have taught me and how many good changes have happened for me. A Slower Lifestyle I can remember feeling incredibly anxious when the stay-at-home orders and shut down were first announced. I was so used to jam packing my schedule full of this and that and only after would I try to squeeze in a few precious moments of me-time. After that initial shock of pretty much having my entire calendar wiped clean and as the days went on, I realized that this slower lifestyle was exactly my pace. Yes, I still had work to do, but without the extra demands on my time, I enjoyed all the extra space in my calendar. I can’t count how many times in the past I wished for extra time and I am incredibly thankful for it. The New Normal With that extra time and the fact that eventually our lives will go back to a pre-pandemic semblance of normal, I have spent quite a lot of time evaluating what I want that return to normal to look like. I’ve journaled and pondered about what I want to allow back into my life and what am I ok with letting go? There are certain time commitments and obligations that I am planning on never returning to and instead replacing them with new commitments and obligations that are more in line with my values and vision for life. While 2020 has been one heck of a curveball of a year, I can’t help but be thankful for the time, space, and new perspectives that it has brought. And just a friendly neighborhood reminder to wear your mask when out in public so we can get back to that pre-pandemic normal! :)

The number one question I get about family portrait sessions is: What time of year is best? It may surprise you, but the end of summer is actually my all time favorite time of year for family portrait sessions. It’s still warm for both morning and evening session times, the light is just the most […]
